Virtual Reality has been a fantasy of tech enthusiasts since the birth of the computer, hell, perhaps even earlier, I’m making assumptions. The idea of enveloping the entirety of a users vision with a window into a digital world and an interactive schematic that replicates real world motion. With the quickly developing concept of augmented reality, this is finally a plausible idea.
We are only a few days from the annual event run by id Software, dubbed Quakecon, and this beauty was revealed to be showcased at the convention. The Oculus Rift:
Oculus Rift is a new virtual reality (VR) headset designed specifically for video games that will change the way you think about gaming forever. With an incredibly wide field of view, high resolution display, and ultra-low latency head tracking, the Rift provides a truly immersive experience that allows you to step inside your favorite game and explore new worlds like never before.
If you’d like to invest in the potential of this promising near-future peripheral, head over to the fund raising Kickstarter and drop some coins in the bucket. There is a plethora of additional details and information, as well as merchandise, however I don’t think any of us need an explanation of the concept.
